Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership (SASP) was thrilled to team up with the brilliant folks at Ariel Healthcare this spring, as their team embraced National Walking Month with a fantastic in-house steps challenge and what a month it's been.
It all kicked off back in March when Becky Bostock, our Senior Project Officer for Health, paid a visit to the Ariel Healthcare team to deliver a motivating presentation about the benefits of moving more in the workplace. Inspired by the message, the team decided to turn words into action, with Jo Broderick, Trainee Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioner, volunteering to lead the charge and organise a workplace challenge for May.
Here is where 'Move More May' was born!
To make sure everyone could join in, whether walking, wheeling, or moving in their own way, SASP helped set up an online challenge page where staff could log their active minutes instead of steps. This way, no smartwatch or step tracker was needed, and the whole practice could get involved. Staff were split into teams of three (picked at random to keep things fair and lively), and 35 staff members signed up, eager to clock up those minutes. The practice's spirit shone through right from the get-go with their team names.
After a month of movement we're thrilled to announce our champions…? CONGRATULATIONS to 'These Boots are Made for Walking!'
A huge well done to everyone who took part. Whether you joined in for fitness, fun, or a bit of friendly rivalry, you've all made an incredible effort and shown how even small movements can make a big difference to wellbeing.
As Jo perfectly put it:
"Whether you were moving for fun, wellness or friendly rivalry, you've all been very inspiring. Keep moving strong, and let this be just the beginning of many more health and wellness wins to come!"
Thank you Ariel Healthcare for letting SASP be part of your journey and here's to many more challenges ahead! ??Interested in setting something up for your PCN or Workplace? Let us know!
